A Broken Kitten Figurine, A Broken Unborn Pup Chapter 01

I lost my pup by accident.

Everyone said Zoe, the daughter of Alpha Blake and Former Luna Wendy, pushed me.

When I woke up, Blake was sitting by my pack hospital bed, looking completely unbothered.

“I’ll have Zoe come and apologize to you personally.” he said.

“Is that enough?” I asked.

He lifted his eyes, impatience flickering in his gaze.

“What do you want, Tessa? Do you expect the Alpha heir of the Stagford Pack to pay with her life for a puddle of blood?”

As it turned out, he never cared about the pup in my belly. Not once.

After all, he had promised the Former Luna that Zoe would be his only pup.

And that pup, for the sake of the Alpha heir title, had killed her own sibling.

I couldn’t believe that Zoe—once so innocent and sweet—had become this malicious.

On the day I found out I was carrying a pup, Blake hadn’t shared my joy.

He locked himself in pack study and smoked all night.

A heavy silence hung over the entire Pack House.

Thinking back to that night, I looked at him and asked softly, “Now that the pup is gone, do you feel relieved?”

Blake looked like he didn’t understand. “What?”

I stared at him. “The day I told you I was carrying a pup, you probably wished I was lying, didn’t you?”

That day had been Wendy’s scheduled visit to see her daughter.

At the dinner table, her face turned pale and she slammed her bowl down when she heard the news.

After dinner, she and Blake had a massive argument in the study.

“Did you forget what you promised me?” Wendy had shrieked. “You said you would only have Zoe. The Stagford Pack will only ever have Zoe as the Alpha heir.”

“Then why is she carrying a pup, Blake?”

Blake’s voice had been as cold as always. “Wendy, I broke the mate bond with you precisely so I wouldn’t have to listen to your endless screaming.”

Wendy went silent.

A moment later, low sobs seeped through the crack beneath the door.

“Zoe is already so sensitive because we broke the bond,” Wendy wept. “What will she think if you have another pup? She’ll think she’s being kicked out of the Pack House!”

After a long pause, Blake finally said, “Let me think about it.”

I had leaned against the wall outside the study that night, the joy from my morning test completely draining away.

He didn’t come out of the study until dawn.

I was waiting for him at the dining table.

“Are you going to the Pack Administration Office without breakfast?” I asked. “Mrs. Dawn went out after making the food. Let me make you a sandwich.”

I stood up too quickly, my hands shaking so much that I nearly tripped over the chair.

Blake reached out to steady me, lifting me easily onto the sofa.

“No need,” he said. “The Werewolf Alliance is holding an Alpha Council video

conference, and I’m running late.”

I nodded.

A few seconds later, he gently rubbed the back of my head. “Don’t overthink things. Just focus on taking care of your pregnancy.”

He was trying to comfort me.

Yet, his expression was so heavy, as if he were facing an insurmountable crisis.

Now, the pup was gone.

I asked him if he felt relieved.

Instead of answering, a faint, mocking smile touched the corners of Blake’s mouth. “Tessa, is that really how you think of me?”

My eyes burned, but I kept my stubborn gaze fixed on him.

Blake stood up.

The oppressive pressure unique to an Alpha flooded the room.

“You need to calm down,” he said. “The Stagford Pack border has been facing frequent rogue attacks lately, and the Administration Office is swamped. Mrs. Dawn will take good care of you. I won’t be coming to the hospital for a while.”

The ward door opened and clicked shut.

Stark, white sunlight streamed through the window, casting long shadows on the floor.

The room was suffocatingly quiet.

I placed my hand on my lower abdomen.

It was empty.

It felt as though a piece of my flesh had been ripped away.

My inner wolf keened, howling in agony—grieving for the lost pup, utterly disillusioned with her mate.

A moment later, a nurse arrived to take me upstairs for an exam.

As I reached the corner of the hallway, I caught the voices of Blake and his sister, Trinity.

“Blake, Tessa just lost her pup,” Trinity scolded. “Can you stop treating her with that high-and-mighty Alpha attitude? I know you only chose her as your mate back then because she was good to Zoe. But she wasn’t the only one who treated Zoe well. She must be special to you.”

Blake dismissed her words carelessly.

“It didn’t matter who I chose. I was just too lazy to pick back then. If I knew she’d be this obsessed with having a pup, I should have chosen a different she-wolf.”

The nurse caught up from behind and called out when she saw me standing frozen in the hall. “Why are you just standing here? It’s time for your checkup.”

Blake and Trinity turned around at the sound.

My eyes met Blake’s.
