A Broken Kitten Figurine, A Broken Unborn Pup Chapter 05

Wendy stepped forward, laughing slightly. “There are no cameras in the
breakroom, so how can we jump to conclusions? Perhaps Tessa simply
misunderstood.”

Peter grasped at the excuse. “Exactly! I didn’t harass her! I accidentally spilled
my coffee and just wanted to hand her some paper towels.”

He turned a venomous glare toward me. “Tessa, stop slandering me. Everyone
knows I have a family and a flawless reputation. You, on the other hand, don’t
even have a public mate, yet you just had a miscarriage. You’re the one with
loose morals, and now you’re trying to frame me!”

He deliberately raised his voice on the last sentence, drawing the eyes of the
entire office.

Whispers broke out, and a dozen judgmental stares pierced into me.

Zoe looked up, screaming at him, “I saw you! You tried to hug her and touch
her!”

“Pups often make up stories or misinterpret things.” Peter muttered with an
awkward laugh, casting nervous glances at Wendy.

Wendy smiled broadly, nodding in agreement. “Zoe is still small. It’s
completely natural for her to see things wrong.”

Zoe opened her mouth to argue, but a harsh glare from Wendy silenced her
instantly.

Blake stared at Wendy for a long moment before turning back to Peter. “Tessa
has a mate. I approved her leave for the ceremony myself. Furthermore, a
miscarriage has nothing to do with a person’s character. You harassed her, and
now you’re trying to shift the blame—”

“Even if she has a mate, that doesn’t prove Peter did anything wrong.” Wendy
interrupted sharply.

“Peter is currently finalizing the Northern Trade Route.”

“No one else can replace him on this treaty. If he falls now, the Stagford Pack will suffer massive financial losses. Besides, we don’t even know if this alleged harassment actually happened.”

“Blake, you are the Alpha, not a boy who only knows how to coddle his mate.”

Wendy’s voice echoed directly in Blake’s mind.

Though their official bond was broken, their frequent interactions and fated connection allowed them to occasionally tap into their telepathic link. Because I was Blake’s chosen mate, I could hear it too.

“If you’re truly that biased toward your chosen mate, I’ll find some minor projects to toss her way later.” she added.

Hearing her mental words, Blake fell silent.

Within seconds, I already knew what his choice would be.

I couldn’t even feel disappointed. I’d never expected him to stand up for me.

But pretending it didn’t hurt? That would be a lie.

For the first time in weeks, my inner wolf stirred—and let out a low, agonizing whimper.

The sound was faint, but filled with a tearing, visceral grief.

As her mate, Blake must have felt it.

He must have known I wasn’t lying about Peter.

Yet, even with that knowledge, he chose to sacrifice my dignity for the sake of the Stagford Pack’s interests.

When Blake spoke again, his voice was noticeably colder. “The harassment allegations will be investigated thoroughly. However, for spreading unfounded rumors against a pack member, Peter, your moonstone bonus for this quarter is revoked.”

Then, he looked at me, his jaw tightening slightly as if offering a royal charity. “I will get to the bottom of this and ensure you get an explanation soon.”

He glanced at the large coffee stain mapping across my shirt.

He began to slip off his jacket, stepping toward me.

I took a deliberate step back. “Thank you, Alpha Blake. I’ll go change my clothes first.”

He froze mid-motion, his hands dropping to his sides as he forced out a low, tight breath.

In that exact moment, I decided to dissolve our mate bond.
