The Mafia’s Substitute Bride Chapter 06
Callum’s POV
“That’s impossible,” I said. “She has a scar on her waist. It looks exactly like a kidney donation scar.”
The doctor shook his head. “That scar came from open surgery for kidney stones. Not a donation”
Cold swept down my spine.
Three years ago, I was diagnosed with end-stage kidney failure.
I hid it from everyone.
From my parents.
From Vivienne.
I was ready to die.
Then a donor matched.
During my recovery, a nurse let something slip. The donor was a young woman in her twenties. Kind. Quiet.
She didn’t even tell her family.
I begged for more information.
Finally, the nurse said, “She’s in the room next to yours. Bed Eight.”
Even with the pain ripping through me, I forced myself to that room.
Mara was lying in the bed.
I knew she liked me. She had hinted enough when she worked as my secretary. I had always refused her.
But this?
A kidney?
My heart cracked open.
“Thank you, Mara,” I said, walking into the room with my voice breaking. “You donated a kidney for me I
never imagined you would go this far. From now on, whatever you need, I’ll make it happen.”
She froze for a few seconds.
Then she blushed and said, “Mm.”
I was too moved to notice the panic flickering in her eyes.
From that day on, I brought Mara into my world. I introduced her to everyone. Defended her against everyone.
And because of her, I personally sent Vivienne into the Russo wedding convoy
Now they were telling me it had all been a mistake.
Mara was not my donor.
Then who was?
I found my old surgeon. I pushed until he gave me the donor file.
The name on it was Vivienne Hart.
I couldn’t breathe.
She had saved my life.
And she had never told me.
I called her.
No answer.
Blocked.
WhatsApp. Blocked.
Every path back to her was shut.
I rushed to the Russo estate.
The guards stopped me at the gate.
“Let me in,” I shouted. “I need to see Old Don Russo’s wife.”
The guards exchanged a strange look.
“The old Don’s wife?” one of them said. “She died three years ago. The old Don is a widower. He has no wife.”
