Chapter 4
One Year Dead, I Decide to Visit My Boyfriend in a Dream Chatper 04
With Ryan’s help, my business boomed.
At this rate, I would make the Top 100 Richest Ghosts in the Heaven community in just a few months. Unfortunately, I never saved any money.
All the money I earned went to seeing Ryan.
“You can’t keep spending like this,” the Dream Keeper finally couldn’t stand it anymore and warned me.
“You’re dead. The living and dead are separate. What are you doing, sneaking into a living man’s dreams all the time?”
“Who’s sneaking? I’m just restocking!” I insisted, holding my head high. “This is for sustainable business development—purely strategic investment in the early stage.”
“Hmph, you wouldn’t understand.”
The Dream Keeper waved me off, annoyed. “Ugh, whatever. Just get in there.”
The dream gate opened, and Ryan was already waiting.
I naturally ran over and wrapped my arms around Ryan’s waist, pressing my face into his chest, calling sweetly. “Baby!”
Ryan’s mouth twitched. He almost reached out to hug me, but his hand fell weakly back down.
I didn’t notice anything wrong with Ryan, too excited. “We have two hours together this time! Aren’t you happy?”
“Mm.”
I leaned against Ryan, chattering nonstop. “Do you know who I saw in the Heaven community the other day? Greg Wilson, our high school class president. Heard he died of cancer. Tsk, so young. He just got married last year, right?”
As soon as I finished speaking, I felt Ryan’s body stiffen. He asked without hesitation. “If I died right now, would I get to meet you there?”
It took me a few seconds to realize what Ryan was saying.
“Why would you even think that? Ryan, you can’t die. You have to stay alive.”
“Why?”
Ryan tilted his head, confused.
“You got to leave so easily. Why can’t I?”
“It’s not the same! I died saving someone—I was a hero in the news! What would you be? Besides, my parents have my sister to take care of them. I was alone. You’re your parents’ only child. They’ll need you when they’re old.”
“Alone?” Ryan stared at me. “Chloe, when you risked your life to save that boy, did you ever think of me? Sometimes I really doubt whether you ever loved me at all.”
Tears glistened in Ryan’s eyes. He took a few deep breaths to calm down.
“It’s not like that,” I whispered, shaking my head.
But before I could explain another word, the dream began to tear apart.
I was forced out.
“What’s going on?!” I rushed to the Dream Keeper. “You said two hours! Why did it end early?”
The Dream Keeper also looked confused. “That doesn’t make sense. Did the system glitch?”
We tried again and again, but nothing worked.
What a broken system! I paid so many Heaven Coins—couldn’t they afford better machines?
I waited all night, but the dream gate never opened.
However, the next day I still couldn’t enter Ryan’s dream.
“Still not fixed?”
“It’s not broken at all,” the Dream Keeper frowned. “I checked everything, and there’s no problem.”
Then why couldn’t I get in?
The Dream Keeper guessed. “Maybe he’s just awake.”
“No way. Ryan would never make me wait this long. He knows I’ll come. He’s always there whenever I arrive.”
As soon as I said that, I realized something was terribly wrong.
Always there? How could a human stay asleep constantly just so I could see him?
Obviously, the Dream Keeper noticed too.
I grabbed the Dream Keeper’s arm. “Mason—if a person suddenly falls into a coma, do I get kicked out of their dreams?”
“A coma means complete loss of consciousness. The dream gate closes completely.”
The Dream Keeper comforted me. “Stop overthinking. He’s not crazy. Who would stay asleep just to see a ghost? He’s probably just busy with work. You’ll see him soon.”
But I waited and waited, and Ryan never appeared.
And the supplies he promised to send never came.
What was wrong with Ryan?
