Synopsis
Everyone tells Tessa she has the best boyfriend. During every storm, Simon Hayes texts the same gentle reminders: Be careful, stay home, stay dry. For eight years, she’s let those words be enough, even when she rolls up her umbrella on the subway and feels the rain cool on her neck.
Then comes a picture: Simon, holding that umbrella over his best friend, Yvette, walking her to the car they bought together, not a single drop touching her. The dash cam tells the rest. Every single day, rain or shine, he brushes Tessa off the ledge, rushing to shelter another woman, then telling her she “overthinks everything.”
So after eight years, Tessa packs her entire life into two suitcases and heads out into the rain alone, no one holding an umbrella over her, and for the first time, no one needed one. He thinks she’ll take him back. She already knows she won’t. Some people only learn what they had once he’s gone.
