A Donna Unclaimed chapter 03

My mother’s words made my chest tighten sharply.

I pushed myself up in bed and called out toward the door, “Mom, come into the room. Help me onto the wheelchair. Let me talk to Griffin.”

My mother came in.

Seeing me sitting up, her face was still tense, but I reached out and hugged her anyway.

“Mom… can you treat this as helping me fulfill my last wish?”

Her eyes immediately turned red, but as always, she loved me too much to refuse. She went to the dresser, grabbed lipstick and a wig, helped me into a sweater, and carefully dressed me.

When she pushed me out of the room, Griffin immediately frowned.

“What’s wrong with you? You were spoiled as a kid, and you still are now. It’s just a broken leg. Why are you making your mother take care of you like this? She’s already old.”

Looking at his disgusted expression, I only smiled calmly.

“The doctor said my fracture is quite serious. I shouldn’t be walking for a while.”

As soon as I finished speaking, Vivian—standing beside Griffin—said gently,

“Rosa, don’t take it personally. Griffin has always been like this. He’s used to being pampered. He gives everyone that same cold face… except me.”

A faint bitterness rose in my chest.

It was true. Griffin treated everyone coldly.

But once… he hadn’t treated me that way.

I quickly pressed down the feeling and looked at Vivian calmly.

“So you really want me to help you pick out your wedding dress and rings?”

“If that’s what you need, I’ll go with you.”

Vivian immediately nodded, “Of course.”

After exchanging a few more polite words, I saw them out.

That night, Griffin called me.

He said he wanted me to accompany him tomorrow to choose wedding dresses.

My fingers tightened around the phone.

Part of me was greedy for his voice. Another part of me was nervous.

It had been six years since I had spoken to him alone like this.

Back then, I used to fall asleep every night listening to his deep, steady voice through my headphones.

Just as I was lost in those memories, a woman’s voice suddenly came through the line.

“Griffin, come help me dry my hair.”

I snapped back to reality and quickly answered, “Okay.”

The moment he heard my reply, Griffin hung up.

The dial tone filled my ears. And suddenly, tears fell.

Even though I was prepared, hearing it with my own ears… seeing it so clearly… that Griffin now belonged to someone else still made my chest ache unbearably.

But still.

This counted as a date, didn’t it?

I picked out clothes the entire night.

The next morning, I woke up early to do my makeup and dress myself carefully, as if I had returned to six years ago, when Griffin and I were still in love.

Looking at myself in the mirror, my skin was pale, but with makeup on, I looked almost normal.

Thinking that I would see him again soon, I couldn’t help but smile.

Then the next second, something warm surged from my nose.

A drop of blood fell onto the table.

“Oh no.”

I quickly pressed my nose, but the tissue in my hand was already soaked through.

At that moment, the doorbell rang downstairs.
