Simon was devastated.

He resigned from his job in Riverside. Then he started showing up on my commute, constantly finding excuses to make his presence known.

Asking whether my outfit looked good. Asking if I’d eaten breakfast.

His overly eager behavior only irritated me more.

One day, I stopped and asked him what he wanted.

He squeezed out a smile.

“I’m chasing you, Tessa. Let’s start over.”

“Give me a chance, okay?”

I looked at him.

I looked at him and shook my head without the slightest hesitation.

“No.”

I took hold of the man standing behind him and pulled him over.

“Meet my boyfriend.”

Panic completely overtook Simon’s face. The smile on his face nearly collapsed into tears.

I didn’t say anything else. I took my boyfriend’s hand and walked away.

Simon didn’t follow.

Behind me, only the sound of someone sobbing brokenly.

After that day, I never saw him again.
