He Said I Was Nothing Without Him And I Signed For Everything Chapter 03

I gripped the suitcase handle until my knuckles slowly turned white.

“Cassian, there’s nothing from Tallowmere in there.”

He took one step closer. There was no warmth in his eyes.

“Maren Sallow, when have you ever told me the truth?”

“You said you wouldn’t leave when I needed you most.”

“And what happened? You ran faster than anyone.”

I didn’t explain.

Cassian didn’t want my explanation.

He gave the guards a look.

The next second, the suitcase was ripped out of my hand and slammed onto the floor.

The zipper was yanked open. Clothes, art supplies, and envelopes spilled everywhere.

I instinctively reached for my mother’s sketchbook, but a guard blocked me.

The gray-blue book slid across the floor and stopped at Isla’s feet.

She bent down, picked it up, and flipped through a few pages. Her eyes brightened slightly.

“Cassian, these are beautiful.”

“Can I have it?”

My face went pale.

I stepped forward at once and pushed her hand away.

“Don’t touch that.”

Isla acted as if I had terrified her. Her fingers trembled, and the sketchbook slipped from her hand, landing with a wet slap in the rain beyond the doorway.

My head went blank.

Inside were the last sketches my mother had ever made.

I rushed forward to pick it up.

But Isla’s heel landed on the cover first.

I looked up at her.

She said weakly, “Maren, don’t look at me like that. You’re scaring me.”

Cassian immediately stepped in front of her, shielding her behind him.

“It’s just an old sketchbook.”

“If it’s ruined, I’ll pay for it.”

“Cassian Veyne, you can’t afford it.”

His face darkened at once.

“Maren Sallow, don’t push your luck.”

I stopped looking at him and bent down to pick up the soaked sketchbook.

The moment my fingers touched the cover, Isla suddenly let out a soft cry.

“Cassian, she pushed me…”

Cassian’s eyes turned cold. He grabbed my wrist, his grip so hard it felt like he would crush the bone.

“Are you done acting insane?”

Pain twisted through me, but I still held on tightly to the drenched book.

“Let go.”

He didn’t.

Instead, he yanked me hard.

I lost my balance. My shoulder slammed into the glass cabinet beside the door.

The cabinet shattered.

On instinct, I caught myself with my right hand.

A sharp pain exploded from my wrist and shot up my arm. Blood poured out, warm and relentless.

For one second, the whole world went silent.

The anger froze on Cassian’s face.

He stared at my right hand. Blood ran between my fingers, bright and horrifying.

For the first time, panic flickered in his eyes. He opened his mouth as if to say something.

But I only looked at him.

“Cassian, are you satisfied now?”
