He Thought I Was Being Good, I Was Just Getting Ready to leave Chapter 11

Leo Ward looked at Ella’s resignation letter and wasn’t sure what to do.

After thinking it over, he called Harrison and told him.

Harrison laughed bitterly on the other end. “She loves that job like it’s her baby. No way she’d actually quit.”

Leo scratched his head. “So… do I approve it or not?”

Something about that question pissed Harrison off. He started yelling. “Approve it. Why not? If she wants to quit, let her quit. That goddamn job is the worst thing that ever happened to her.”

“What kind of shithole company do you even run? Ever since she started working for you, she’s never home.”

“And she dresses like a homeless person every day. Do you know how to manage a business or not?”

Leo hung up and thought to himself: Ella was actually the most put-together person in his office. She wore a little makeup every day, heels too.

He wished Harrison could see the rest of his employees, leggings under skirts, sweatpants tucked into socks in winter.

Rich people were impossible to understand. Why would some billionaire’s girlfriend spend her days working like a mule at his little company? Was it some kind of experiment?

He threw his phone down and muttered, “Asshole.”

Then he glanced at Ella’s empty desk and added, “You too. Slightly.”

And he approved her resignation.

He was sorry to see her go; she really was one of the best.

But Harrison had spoken. So Leo did what he was told.

Harrison didn’t find out Ella had left Silver Creek until two weeks later.

He paused while signing a document and didn’t look up. “She wants to leave, let her leave. What, you think I can’t live without her?”

Derek said, “No, of course not.”

Harrison leaned back. “Okay, so she’s pale. She’s got big round eyes and a mole at the corner of one eye. Nice waist, long legs. She’s a little boring.”

He lifted his chin. “Women like that are everywhere. You really think I can’t live without her?”

Derek crossed his arms and studied him for a long moment.

Everywhere, huh? Derek touched his chin. Were they, though?
