The Principessa Bought a Genius Boyfriend Chapter 03
Vincent stepped closer, one slow, threatening step at a time.
He was still the boy I remembered, just stripped of all his youth, harder and more mature now.
“Deleted all social media, phone number disconnected. Even the best hackers can’t find a trace of you. Isabella, you’re really a genius, huh?”
I looked up slowly, meeting his eyes.
“You must’ve… used your connections to look into me already, right? My family fell, my dad’s tangled up in economic disputes, I still haven’t paid off all the debts…”
“Why didn’t you tell me back then?”
I had no answer.
“Too proud to ask for help, is that it, Principessa Isabella?”
“No—”
Before I could finish, Aurora walked up—Vincent had said she was waiting for him downstairs.
“Oh! Isabella Moretti! It really is you!”
She was even prettier than she was in college, perfect down to every single strand of hair.
“Long time no see! All our classmates have been looking for you, how come you’ve gone completely off the grid for four years?”
I tried to pull myself together for this reunion. “I was down south.”
“That explains it.” Aurora scanned my jacket, eyes widening in fake surprise. “Isabella, isn’t this the down jacket you bought junior year? It’s already leaking feathers, why are you still wearing it?”
I used to throw away clothes after wearing them once.
She was just trying to embarrass me.
But I was already numb to it.
“It’s not broken, still wearable.”
Aurora nodded like she got it. “How’d you end up working here? Did you run into trouble with money? You should’ve told us, and we old classmates would help you out.”
She pulled out a check.
“Take it. You don’t have to pay me back.”
“Thanks, but I don’t need it.”
Aurora looped her arm through Vincent’s, like she was marking her territory. “How’ve you been all these years? Did you meet a new boyfriend?”
I looked at her, then at Vincent. “I’m getting married soon. Make sure you come, okay?”
The second the words left my mouth, Vincent froze, completely shocked.
But I didn’t look at him again.
The nightclub was just my side job. I worked a full-time shift during the day.
On Monday, a new client came into the office.
My coworkers were gossiping, “Heard this guy’s a genius. He built his whole system originally just to find someone.”
“Wait, who’s he looking for?”
“His ex, probably.”
My heart skipped a beat. A bad feeling curled in my gut.
“Did he find her yet?”
“Who knows. The system’s not done yet, but so many Wall Street big shots are throwing money at him. It’s gonna be huge. That’s why our boss wants to work with him so bad.”
I grabbed my documents and headed in.
Right outside the meeting room, I heard Vincent’s voice.
“I need more time to think about the deal.”
I pushed the door open and set the folder on the table.
Vincent’s eyes burned into me. “Why are you here?”
“I work here.”
It was my full-time job, after all.
My boss looked curious. “Isabella, you two know each other?”
I thought about it for a second, then answered. “We’ve met before.”
“Just met?” Vincent snapped, already angry again.
I didn’t even know what he was mad about. He was the one who walked away without looking back the day we broke up, wasn’t he?
He pointed at me. “Mr. Thompson, I’ll sign the contract. But only if Isabella gets transferred to be my assistant.”
My boss Mr. Thompson agreed instantly, didn’t even give me a chance to say no.
Business was business.
They negotiated the details of the partnership all day.
When evening rolled around, I grabbed my bag and headed out right on schedule.
Vincent blocked my path. “Where do you think you’re going? I didn’t dismiss you.”
“Vincent, I can’t overtime today. I have other things to do.”
“What things?”
“I have to go deliver takeout.”
Vincent stared at me like he couldn’t believe what he just heard.
I used to be so spoiled, I never even touched takeout containers back then.
