I Borrowed Money From My Bullies Before Faking My Death Chapter 16
That night, I slipped away.
My last task was done. I had no reason to stay.
Traveling light. The System covered my tracks. I disappeared into the darkness. Smooth all the way.
Settled into the first-class cabin, I drifted off.
And dreamed.
Seven years ago.
I was in the corner of the classroom. Chewing on bread. Listening to music.
Knox slid into the seat next to me. Pinched my cheek with one hand. Casually dropped a chocolate milk in front of me with the other.
Asher settled in front of me, grinning. Took one of my earbuds. Put it in his own ear.
Finally, Silas walked into my class. Came to my desk. Placed his notes in front of me.
I kept chewing.
The scene shifted.
Asher coaxed me, voice sweet. “Knox has a garbage temper. Silas is too calculating. I’m the one who suits you best. Right?”
I glanced at him. Shook my head.
He pouted. “You don’t like me? They’re both terrible, okay?”
I thought about it. “I don’t like anyone.”
I don’t know if Asher heard me. He grabbed my hand. Laced his fingers through mine.
“You keep stealing glances at me, but now you’re acting heartless.” He smiled.
I sighed softly.
Stealing glances wasn’t exactly my choice.
Asher’s smile froze. After a long silence, he exhaled low.
“Even with our hands together… why do I feel like you’re so far away?”
Then he pulled me into his arms.
“It’s okay if you don’t like me. Just don’t leave.”
But I was spaced out. In my head, I asked the System, [How long until extraction?]
The System replied, [Two hours.]
A dark thought crossed my mind.
I poked Asher. “Lend me…”
I wanted to borrow a lot of money. Didn’t dare. Finally squeezed out. “Lend me ten thousand.”
Asher beamed. “Okay. Kiss me first.”
I stood to leave.
He slipped the card into my palm. Tickled it like a feather.
Asher said, “I’ll take you to that new restaurant this weekend. Okay?”
I didn’t answer.
In the end, Asher never got his weekend.
Because by then, I’d already used the System’s power. Silently. Gone.
