He Made Me Fight His Champion Best Friend, Then Begged Me to Come Home Chapter 05

“Nathaniel, please. I’m begging you. I need four hundred thousand dollars. My grandmother needs treatment, just four hundred thousand!”

I didn’t even care about the dress anymore. My voice broke as I kept repeating it, eyes locked on him.

Nathaniel’s expression shifted slightly, like he was about to speak.

But Sierra cut him off again. “Wow, Emily. Three million wasn’t enough, now it’s four?”

She laughed out loud, eyes full of mockery as she looked at my drenched, trembling body.

“Fine. Let’s play another game. If you do it, I’ll give you the money. No tricks this time, I’ll even hand you the card in advance.”

She held out ten folded slips of paper.

I looked at Nathaniel. He said nothing. My heart went completely cold.

“Fine, but give me the card first.”

I picked up the black card and unfolded one slip.

The words made my entire body freeze.

Before I could react, Sierra snatched it and read it out loud with a grin. “Get on your knees and bark like a dog.”

I quickly opened the other nine.

The same words. All of them.

Nathaniel frowned and picked up one of the slips, turning to her. “Sierra, that’s too far.”

“Come on, Nathan,” she said lightly. “She agreed to it herself. Right, Emily?”

She tilted her head at me, smiling as she pointed at the card in my hand.

“I don’t want the money anymore! I don’t want it!”

“Please just give me my phone back!”

“My grandmother is going to die!”

“Mr. Whitmore isn’t here, so calm down, okay, Emily?” Sierra’s voice laughed from outside.

Then she threw the key through the window.

Time blurred after that. Eventually, the phone rang.

I pressed myself against the door crack.

“I’ll transfer the money immediately—”

But the voice on the line cut through me like ice.

“Ms. Harrison… I’m very sorry. Your grandmother could not be revived in time. We offer our deepest condolences.”

My mind went completely blank. My body collapsed.

Blood pooled beneath my dress.

At dawn, Nathaniel’s exhausted voice message finally reached me.

“Emily… I don’t know why you care so much about money. But I’ve thought about it. If you want it, I’ll give it to you.”

The four hundred thousand finally arrived. I mechanically wiped the blood from my hands.

Too late. It didn’t matter anymore.

My vision darkened. The world felt like it was sinking away from me.

Grandma… I’m coming.

The next day, Nathaniel stared at his phone, restless.

Emily never ignored him, no matter how angry she was. Never.

Thinking back to Sierra’s jokes from last night, his chest tightened.

Something felt wrong. He grabbed his keys and drove back to the estate at full speed.

His footsteps quickened as he approached the door.

“Emily, why aren’t you replying to my—”

He pushed it open, and froze.
