A Heart in Ruins Chapter 10

Vittorio’s jaw tightened as he stared at them. “Don’t you know Sylvia Cross is my wife?”

“Is she?” Dante feigned utter surprise as he looked at me, “I I was under the impressionthat you and Sylvia already get divorced?”

He lowered his head and pressed a tender kiss to my forehead, his tone dripping with affection. “Sylvia, your ex- husband is here to catch us cheating. What should we do?”

I jeered, my gaze sweeping over Vittorio with chilling indifference, “He’s just my ex-husband. Is it any of his business?”

Vittorio felt his chest constrict violently. He stepped forward and grabbed my wrist, “I never agreed to the divorce.”

His voice was severe, carrying an undeniable dominance, “Come home with me. I can compensate you for everything that happened before.”

I shook off his hand, my eyes filled with pure mockery.

“Compensate? You’ll compensate me again.” I scoffed, the sound sharp and bitter. “Vittorio, do you actually believe your compensation matter that much?”

“If I took fancy to you, I would have been ecstatic. But now…” I took a deliberate step back and wrapped my arm through Dante Falzone’s, “I’ve stopped loving you. Just go back to your Silvia. Don’t come bother me anymore.”

Vittorio’s gaze grew dark. He forcibly suppressed his anger. “Silvia was just my sister. In the future, there won’t be any…”

“It’s none of my business.” I interrupted him, “I’m very happy to be with Dante now.”

“Happy?” Vittorio narrowed his eyes, repeating the words.

“Wow, how come it’s so bustling here?” A teasing voice came from behind.

My brother, Gilbert Cross, strolled over leisurely, carrying two bottles of red wine. Seeing Vittorio, he raised an eyebrow and had a gloomy expression.

“What are you doing here?”

“Take your sister back with me.” Vittorio demanded.

“But I’ve already introduced her to Dante,” Gilbert shrugged, saying it intentionally.

Vittorio lost his temper, his voice rising in a roar. “You just have only one sister. How can you toss her back and forth like she’s mere goods?”

“The best way to end a painful relationship is to start a new one.” Gilbert taunted. “You taught me this yourself, didn’t you?”

Feeling a panic in his chest, Vittorio lowered his voice. “I’m sorry for what I did before.”

He looked at me pleadingly, “Come back with me, please!”

I grinned sardonically, “Why must I go back with you? Have you fallen for me?”

Vittorio fell silent for a moment. “I’m not sure. But I can’t get accustomed to having you not at home.”

“Ha!” I suddenly laughed out loud. “So, am I just an accessory to you? You aren’t even sure your affection, yet you’re so certain I’ll go back with you?”

I held onto Dante’s arm tighter, my tone light and cheerful. “Listen carefully! Vittorio, I don’t love you anymore. I am very happy with Dante now.”

With that, I turned and walked into the house with him, never casting another glance in his direction,

Just as Vittorio was about to chase after us, Gilbert stepped in front, blocking his path. “Hey, this is my house.

Vittorio said stubbornly, his pride refusing to yield. “Dante Falzone is your brother. Am I not? Why can’t you le me stay over at your house for a few days?”

Gilbert smiled meaningfully. “Sure, but…” He lowered his voice. “Don’t regret it.”

Frowning, Vittorio didn’t understand what he was implying.

But, the moment he stepped into the living room, Vittorio froze in place. On the plush sofa, Dante was feeding a strawberry to my lips.

“Honey, take it.” Dante murmured softly.

I bit into it and smiled, then casually fed him a grape in return. We shared bites back and forth until we were kissing again.

Vittorio rushed over and forcefully pulled us apart. “Will you die if you don’t kiss for a single moment?”

eaning against the doorframe, Gilbert chimed in, “They might. Forgot to tell you, they’re in the heat of passion right now. Since Dante moved in, the first thing when I get home every day is to chaperon them.”

He patted Vittorio’s shoulder. “I told you that you’d regret it.”

A sharp pain pierced his chest. Vittorio couldn’t even articulate why he was so furious. Grabbing my wrist, he snapped, “Stop throwing a tantrum and come back with me.”

I strived to shake him off, my patience completely evaporated. “Vittorio, did I not make myself clear? You and I get divorced. I’m falling in love with Dante. I won’t go back with you.”

Unable to suppress his rage any longer, Vittorio shouted, “You stay by my side for ages! I don’t believe you just fell out of love like this.”

He grabbed my wrist tightly, “You can’t start a new relationship on a whim! Come with me!”

Godden sunlight streamed through the floor-to-ceiling windows, stretching our shadows across the floor.

་་

I pinned his hand down, trying to break free from his crushing grip. I stared at him with a terrifying calmness,” Vittorio, you are always so confident. But, how come you don’t get that my heart was broken into a million pieces? It will never be fixed. Not ever.”
