I Borrowed Money From My Bullies Before Faking My Death Chapter 06
When I woke up, the System was already roasting me.
[You literally passed out. That’s your big move? Or is this just your escape strategy?]
I fired back. [I’m the doomed, cowardly, self-loathing side character. Getting scared into unconsciousness is completely on-brand, okay?]
“Awake?”
I nearly jumped out of my skin again.
I turned my head, dazed.
Knox sat beside the bed, long fingers wrapped around his phone, mid-game.
He glanced at me, bored. “Stop staring at me like an idiot.”
I pushed myself up. “Did you… catch me?”
“Who else?” He scoffed. “You wanted Silas to catch you? He didn’t even glance your way. Told me to deal with you.”
I let out a quiet, invisible breath.
Good.
Knox cursed as his game ended. He tossed the phone aside.
He looked down at me. “So… how should I deal with you, little thief? You can work off your debt. Right here in this house.”
I stared at him, incredulous. “What did I steal? They framed me, and you know it.”
Hello? I was locked up here because of you.
Knox’s face didn’t change. He tapped the white T-shirt I was wearing.
“That’s a thousand-dollar shirt.”
Then it hit me. When I first got here, the housekeeper had laid out new clothes for me. They were all like what I’d worn before—plain white tees, black pants. I hadn’t thought much of it.
I clenched my jaw. “Then give me back what I was wearing.”
“I tossed that polyester trash out on the first day.” He said it like it was nothing.
My face must’ve looked murderous, because Knox’s eyes narrowed with amusement. “You’re welcome to walk out naked.”
I lost it.
How was Knox still this awful even with amnesia!
The System muttered, [Getting you this worked up… gotta admit, he’s got talent.]
Knox shoved a bowl of oatmeal from the nightstand into my hands.
“Honestly didn’t expect it. Silas and his current girl actually seem solid. He still hasn’t ditched her for a new one.”
So… I wasn’t getting pawned off?
Thank God. I knew my bad luck couldn’t last forever.
“For now, you stay with me,” he said, that infuriating smirk back in place. “My little stalker.”
I ignored him.
Got out of bed. Washed up. Went downstairs and ate the meal that was ready.
Right after I finished, Knox grabbed my wrist and yanked me toward the door.
I stumbled. “What are you doing?”
“Taking you out.”
