My Husband Made Me Give Blood to Her – While I Was Carrying His Baby Chapter 05
[Third Person’s POV]
After spending days at the hospital with barely any sleep, Evan looked exhausted, with bloodshot eyes and unshaven cheeks.
Ann frowned at him and feigned concern. “Evan, go home and rest. Kevin can take over.”
Evan stared at his silent message thread with Summer. She had not sent him a single message, even though she would normally have been calling and texting him constantly.
A growing sense of unease settled over him, and he decided to return home.
Ann caught his arm. “Evan, what about my hospital bills for the next few days?”
She did not need to finish. He understood what she wanted.
He went to the billing desk, but his card was declined.
“How is that possible?”
He tried again before checking the account. The ten thousand dollars was gone.
His heart sank, and he raced home.
Perhaps Summer was merely angry.
When he opened the door, however, the apartment was silent. There was no yelling and no barrage of accusations.
The living room had been stripped of her belongings. He rushed into the bedroom and discovered that everything belonging to Summer was gone.
Only the bag of Ann’s dirty clothes remained in the closet.
He called Summer, but the call went straight to voicemail.
“No… This can’t be happening…”
His heart hammered as he wandered through the empty apartment like a ghost.
Then he noticed the documents on the coffee table.
The divorce papers bore both of their signatures.
He stared at his own name and remembered signing without reading because
his mind had been entirely occupied by Ann.
Beneath the papers lay a single thin document: Summer’s abortion record.
When had she done it?
A sharp pain pierced his chest, as though every word on that page had been
carved directly into his heart.
Beside the documents lay a simple gold band, the promise ring he had bought
with money he earned handing out flyers one winter, when the cold had left his
hands raw and chapped.
No matter how fiercely they had fought, Summer had never removed it.
Now she had taken her money, left the ring behind, and walked away.
It was truly over.
She was not coming back.
She had been gentle and devoted, marrying him without even receiving a proper
wedding. What had he given her in return?
Evan’s eyes burned, and he doubled over as sobs tore from his chest.
His phone rang. He snatched it up, only to discover that the caller was not
Summer.
Kevin and Ann’s voices came through the speaker.
“Evan, Ann’s bill is due tonight. The nurse just came by. Did you pay it?”
“Evan, you should get some rest. Just pay the bill, and Kevin can stay here with
me.”
“And could you order some takeout? We’re hungry.”
Rage erupted inside him.
“Leave me the hell alone!” he shouted before smashing his phone.
