He Thought I Was Being Good, I Was Just Getting Ready to leave Chapter 06

Harrison left the office late that night.

As he drove off, he thought about what had happened that afternoon.

He’d told her he would make it up to her that night. But Derek had called eighty times, begging him to come to some party.

Whatever. It could wait another hour or two. Harrison shrugged and turned the car toward the club.

When he arrived, Derek slung an arm around his shoulders and looked behind him.

“Well, well. You came alone? Where’s the missus?”

That little rabbit had no real tricks up her sleeve, but she sure knew how to follow a man around and stare at him with those big eyes.

And Harrison ate it up every single time. He let her tag along anywhere, no matter how embarrassing it looked for him.

Harrison handed his jacket to the attendant. “She walked in on me and Tiffany today. Now she’s throwing a tantrum.”

Derek clicked his tongue. “I thought it was something serious. But come on, man, that’s dirty. You know she can’t stand seeing your side pieces. Why rub it in her face?”

“Even a rabbit bites when you poke it enough. You sure you’re not pushing her too far? One day she might just hop away for good.”

Harrison lit a cigarette. “Women are boring when they have no fight in them. Let her sulk for a couple of days.”

Derek slapped his forehead. “My birthday’s the day after tomorrow. You two still coming?”

Someone at the table laughed. “There’s still two days. Based on past experience, I bet she’ll come crawling back tonight.”

Harrison shrugged lazily. “I’m fine either way. As for her, you figure it out.”

“Easy enough. Just give me Ella’s number.” Derek pulled out his phone. “You always act like she’s gonna leave you every time she mentions breaking up.”

“I’ll scare her a little. Tell her if she doesn’t show up, I’ll make you dump her.”

Derek was already dialing. Harrison tried to warn him. “Don’t freak her out too much. She’s timid.”

Derek said hello, then there was a long pause before a stranger’s voice came through the line.

He froze and looked at Harrison, confused.

“This is her number, right? So why the hell is some guy picking up at this hour?”

Harrison’s gaze shifted through the haze of cigarette smoke, his eyes narrowing.
