I Borrowed Money From My Bullies Before Faking My Death Chapter 13

Knox waved me off.

I left his room and wandered down to the kitchen. Went straight for the fridge. Looking for a drink.

Then I heard the front door.

I peeked out.

Well, speak of the devil.

Silas was here.

Delilah trailed behind him.

I ducked behind the kitchen door. Perfect angle for bitter gazing.

“Grab your stuff and go.” Silas’s voice was cold, coming from the living room.

Delilah’s jaw tightened. “You know I didn’t leave anything. It’s just an excuse. I’ve been with you for so long. I thought we were different.”

“We have no real relationship. Know your place.” Silas sat on the couch. Long legs crossed. Flat tone.

“You can’t even play her right.”

Delilah sniffled. The timid act dropped. “If you love her so much, go find her! Stop making other women imitate her. You’re just a jerk!”

The temperature in the room dropped.

Security moved in. They were about to escort her out.

She fought it. Struggled. In the chaos, her eyes met mine—where I was carefully, silently watching.

She clearly hadn’t expected me to be here. A beat of shock.

Then she lunged. Dragged me out hard.

“I even caught a thief for you, and you’re this cruel to me?”

I went blank.

I stood there frozen, staring straight at the man on the couch.

The air congealed.

Only the curtains moved, drifting softly by the window.

I wanted to bolt upstairs.

My legs were cement. Couldn’t lift them. Nothing but cold sweat.

Finally.

Silas stood.

“Josie.” He said.

“It’s been a long time.”

Delilah’s jaw dropped. “You know each other?”

Silas didn’t look away from me.

His tall frame trembled, almost imperceptibly. Knuckles white.

I stumbled back a step.

He seemed to realize he was scaring me. Froze in place.

“Still so timid?” His voice was hoarse. The edges soft. Like a sigh. Like longing.

I forced myself not to look away. Stared right at him.

Nothing from the System. Panic crawled up my throat.

Silas spoke slowly. “I searched for you for seven years. Josie. You’re a little liar.”

I didn’t answer. Called out internally. [Task still isn’t done? I’m staring right at him!]

The System ignored me.

“But I missed you.”
