My Husband Made Me Give Blood to Her – While I Was Carrying His Baby Chapter 02

[Summer’s POV]

I walked into the kitchen and shut out their laughter. I was the outsider. I did not belong among them.

In the past, I would have screamed and fought back, believing it was the only way to preserve my dignity. It had only encouraged them to treat me worse.

Beside my emotional outbursts, Ann always managed to look like a saint.

Now, however, I no longer cared. Neither those people nor that man was worth it.

By the time I carried the food out, sweat had soaked through my clothes.

Ann reached for the chicken soup. The moment I released the bowl into her hands, she abruptly pulled them back.

The bowl shattered, sending hot soup across the floor.

“Watch out!” Evan pulled Ann to safety while the soup splashed over my bare leg, scalding it red.

“Summer, I know you hate me, but you didn’t have to drop the bowl on purpose!” Ann sobbed. Not a single drop had touched her, yet she buried herself against Evan’s chest as though she were the victim.

“Summer, what’s wrong with you?”

“You’ve been picking on Ann forever. We’re only friends, so why do you always act like this?”

“She let go first,” I said evenly.

They continued attacking me until Evan cut them off. “Summer, apologize. You went too far. Ann just got out of the hospital, and you frightened her.”

Despite the suffocating heat, cold seeped into my bones. The burn on my leg was nothing compared with the pain in my chest.

I looked at the man who had once made me feel safe. Now he was the one hurting me most.

Something inside me finally broke.

“Fine. I’m sorry.” I gave them a bitter smile as tears stung my eyes.

Evan blinked and reached for me, but I stepped away.

“The food is ready, and I’ve apologized. May I bandage my leg now?” I showed him the blisters forming across my skin.

His gaze dropped to the burn, and he finally let me leave.

I abandoned the mess and went to my room.

From outside, I heard Ann’s tearful voice. “I’m sorry. I made Summer angry again. I’m nothing but a jinx. I’ll leave.”

The door opened, and she ran out. Everyone rushed after her before the door slammed shut.

I assumed Evan had followed them, but a moment later, he entered the room.

He wrapped his arms around me from behind and stroked my stomach.

“Summer, why can’t you be nicer to her? Ann is still like a child. You need to be patient with her. We have a baby now, and once things at work settle down, I’ll give you a proper wedding. Don’t be angry, okay?”

His voice was gentle, almost pleading.

“So you do remember that I’m pregnant?” I pushed his hands away and gave a humorless laugh.

His smile vanished as his phone rang.

Kevin’s voice cut through the silence. “Evan, get over here! Ann collapsed in the street, and someone needs to pay her hospital bill.”

Evan immediately grabbed our joint bank card from the nightstand.

“Have you lost your mind, Evan?” I blocked his path. “You’re taking the moneywe saved for our baby to pay for her?”

His expression darkened as he shoved past me. “Enough, Summer. This is a matter of life and death, and all you care about is yourself. You’re being selfish.”

I struck his shoulders, trying to stop him, but he dragged me along with him.

“Selfish? She’s your friend, not mine! Why are you spending my money on her?”

My words pushed him over the edge. Like an enraged bull, he shoved me aside, and I fell onto the broken ceramic shards no one had bothered to clean up.

Pain tore through me. I lifted a trembling hand and realized that my back and arms were cut and bleeding.

Evan was already gone. He never looked back.

Blood covered my palms. Before I lost consciousness, I managed to dial 911.
