[Summer’s POV]

Through the haze, I dreamed of the boy Evan had once been. We were standing on Old Chapel Hill, and he had clasped his hands together in prayer.

“I’ll take care of Summer forever. If I ever break that promise, let me die a horrible death.”

I woke in the darkness, alone in a hospital room. A nurse brought me water and helped me sit up.

When she saw my bandages, she said softly, “You just had an abortion. How did you end up injured like this again? You need to rest.”

I closed my eyes as pain and bitterness washed over me.

I thanked her, but my heart felt hollow.

When I checked my phone, I saw that Kevin had posted an Instagram story with the caption, “The person who truly cares about Ann has always been Evan.”

The photo showed Evan sitting on a hospital bed while Ann lay with her head in his lap, smiling as though she had won.

They truly were a pair of cheating scumbags. No wonder everyone called them the perfect couple.

My heart had already gone numb. I forced down the remaining sadness because neither of them deserved my tears.

I opened my banking app and saw that my ten thousand dollars were still there.

I transferred the money into my personal account.

My marriage to Evan had died with our child.

Then I called my general manager, Ms. Thompson.

“Ms. Thompson, is there still a chance for me to transfer to headquarters?”
