The Boss Behind the Mask Was My Father Chapter 06

[Twenty million for eight years in prison.]

When Teddy opened the photo, he froze.

The name listed as the transfer sender was none other than Ivy Gibson.

He clearly remembered that twenty million dollars. Back then, Ivy had claimed she needed to go abroad for medical treatment, and he had sent her the money without a second thought.

His breath caught. He grabbed a passing nurse and roared frantically. “Get a doctor over here right away! Arrange a full body checkup for the patient inside. Hurry!”

Startled by his outburst, the nurse rushed off to make arrangements.

Ivy stared uneasily at the medical equipment attached to her body. By the time she realized what was happening, it was already too late.

“Mr. Payson, the patient is in perfect physical condition. There are no signs of severe injury, nor any symptoms of depression,” the doctor reported.

Veins bulged on Teddy’s forehead. “You fooled every single one of us. Are you proud of yourself?”

Ivy trembled all over, still feigning confusion. “What are you talking about, Teddy? I don’t understand a word of this.”

Glancing sideways, she spotted Thomas and Riley walking over with food containers. She darted behind them for protection.

“Mom, Dad! Teddy has lost his mind! He’s been tricked by Mabel!”

The elderly couple looked utterly confused.

Teddy let out a cold laugh and handed them his phone along with the medical report.

After reading through everything, Thomas’s face turned livid with rage. He raised his hand and slapped Ivy hard across the cheek, sending her staggering sideways.

“You ungrateful brat! We gave you everything! How could you do this to us?”

Riley stood stunned for a long time, tears welling up in her eyes as she stared at Ivy. “Why did you lie to us?”

“You heartless girl! We raised you as our own daughter. How could you… how could you do this?” She was too overcome with anger to finish her sentence.

Clutching her stinging cheek, Ivy suddenly let out a bitter laugh. “A bunch of fools. How can you blame me? You believed every single word I said without question.”

“I do feel sorry for Mabel, though. She risked her life to save you all, yet you bullied her for years on end. I used to envy her, but not anymore. Because I don’t have to compete with the dead.”

“It’s hilarious, really. Your own flesh and blood drove her to her death,” she cackled maniacally.

Thomas and Riley’s eyes widened in horror. “What do you mean? Where is Mabel?”

A sharp twinge of pain pricked Teddy’s heart. Just then, his phone rang.

He answered it at once. “Did you find Mabel? Tell her to wait for me at home. I’m on my way right now!”

There was a long silence on the line before the caller spoke cautiously. “Mr. Payson… there was an accident on the film set. A sudden fire broke out, and we couldn’t get everyone out in time. Mrs. Payson and young Nadia are still trapped inside.”

Teddy went rigid, rooted to the ground.

There was a long pause on the line before the assistant spoke, his voice barely a whisper. “Sir, there’s something else you need to know.”

“The film crew hired by Ms. Gibson has been arrested. They confessed… everything that happened to Mrs. Payson in that village was real. They said Ms.

Gibson ordered them to carry out every torture for real. She also claimed you had given your permission—that as long as they kept Mrs. Payson alive, they could do whatever they pleased to her.”

“Everyone knew Mrs. Payson was never your favorite, and no one would believe a word she said. That’s why they acted so recklessly.”

Teddy’s face drained of all color.

Memories flooded back. He could hear Mabel’s whimpers and Nadia’s desperate cries for help.
