The Boss Behind the Mask Was My Father Chapter 07

Back then, he had thought they were just putting on an act, trying to win his sympathy.

Nadia had only been two years old. She had watched her mother suffer right in front of her eyes.

Mabel had used her last ounce of strength to protect their daughter.

And yet, he was the one who destroyed everything.

The call was on speakerphone, so Thomas and Riley heard every word clearly.

These two proud elders, who had never bowed to anyone in their lives, collapsed to their knees, their legs giving out beneath them.

“It’s our fault… we’re the ones who killed Mabel,” Riley sobbed uncontrollably, her eyes swollen shut from crying. Thomas leaned heavily on his cane, looking decades older in an instant.

Back at the family home, they found the blood-stained handkerchief and broke down in bitter grief.

“That day… she was already so weak, and we treated her so cruelly…” Riley let out a heart-wrenching wail as she gripped the handkerchief tightly.

She lunged forward and grabbed Ivy by the collar. “You killed my daughter! You cruel girl! Give my Mabel back to me!”

Ivy was dragged to the floor, thrashing wildly. “It wasn’t me! You refused to believe her yourselves! This has nothing to do with me!”

“How dare you keep lying!” Thomas struck her with his cane. “We loved you like our own child! How could you repay us like this? You took Mabel’s life, and now you’ve driven her daughter to death too!”

Riley huddled in the corner, shedding endless tears. Every tear she cried was stained with Mabel’s blood.

“Get her out of here,” Teddy said in a flat, cold voice. “Send men to take her to the psychiatric hospital. Tell the Director to keep her under strict supervision.”

Ivy’s face turned ashen.

She had always thought Teddy held some affection for her, given how kindly he had treated her over the years. Only now did she realize the truth: he had drawn close to her all along, merely to torment Mabel.

A bitter smile tugged at her lips. She went limp as the bodyguards dragged her away.

Teddy walked into the main hall.

The two vibrant souls who had once filled this home with life were now nothing but ashes.

Tucked inside Nadia’s pocket until her final breath was a photograph. In the picture, Mabel held the newborn Nadia, her face lit up with a bright smile. Teddy stood behind her, one arm around her shoulders, the other gently supporting the baby’s head. He had smiled so sincerely back then.

Teddy pressed the old photo to his chest, leaned his head against the memorial tablet, and finally let out loud, broken sobs.

I woke up lying in an unfamiliar room. Everything around me was strange.

Where was I?

I sat up abruptly and rushed to the mirror beside the bed.

Staring back was a girl of eleven or twelve, with messy hair and a pale pink nightdress printed with cartoon bunnies. I touched my face and turned my hands over. Not a single scar remained.

I had been trapped in raging flames, shielding Mom with my body just before blacking out. Now I felt light and unhurt.

Suddenly, the familiar mechanical voice of the system echoed in my mind.

“System bug fixed. Cross-world quest completed. Mother and Daughter Reunion Card unlocked.”

Before I could process the words, the bedroom door opened.

The moment I saw the person stepping inside, I burst into tears. “Mom…!
Mom, you’re alright! I’m so glad you’re alive!”

The woman smiled softly and pulled me into her arms, her eyes filled with tender concern. “Don’t be scared. Mom is here.”

“My quest succeeded at last. From now on, Nadia and I will stay together forever.”
